Samantha Stosur - Loses To Kim Clijsters

September 7, 2010 - Samantha Stosur - News From The US Open

Samantha Stosur all set to face defending champion in Top – 8 round!

Yesterday on Sunday 5th September, 2010, finally Samantha Stosur’s name was included in the top-eight list of the US Open 2010 following a three-set victory in a nail-biting clash against Russian star-player, Elena Dementieva in New York.

Being the tournament’s fifth seed, Australian Samantha Stosur won the crucial match with 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 & finally 7-2 in the fourth-round reportedly booking her next match with defending champion, Kim Clijsters in the US Open quarter-finals.

After winning her clash, Samantha Stosur said “it’s just unbelievable right now. We both played a great match. We both went for it. To have a match like that here is fantastic”.

She further added “I just dug deep and never gave up and made her work for it and I was able to pull it out. That’s definitely one of the most exciting matches I’ve ever played”.Australian Samantha Stosur has beaten 12th seed Russian Elena Dementieva 6-3 2-6 7-6 (7-2) in a gruelling encounter to book a place in the US Open quarter-finals. Notably, the match started at 10.57pm local time and finished at 1.37am, thus covering two evenings at the US Open for the first time.

Kim Clijsters by sr_cranks

Even if, like me, you're predicting a Caroline Wozniacki win, it's patently impossible not to love Kim Clijsters. In a 2010 U.S. Open quarterfinals match that started late and ran later, she maintained her bubbly charm amid ghastly on-court conditions, defeating 5th-seeded Sam Stosur 6-4. 5-7, 6-3. (The evening's intangibles award went to Stosur's crisp purple Lacoste dress.) The ladies battled the weather at least as often as they battled each other; by the second set both players were displaying visible frustration with the windy stadium.

Kim Clijsters has now won 19 straight matches at Flushing Meadows, and will face Venus Williams in the semis.

Kim Clijsters v Sam Stosur – US Open live tennis

Kim Clijsters opens the night session against Sam Stosur in the US Open quarter-finals.

Much will depend on how Stosur has recovered from her marathon fourth round encounter with Elena Dementieva. The Aussie has not been at her best but she’s toughing out wins and is enjoying by far her best ever run at the US Open. She sealed a gutsy 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 late night win over the Russian on Sunday in a match where it seemed almost impossible for either player to hold serve.

However she faces even more of a step up in class against defending champion Clijsters who is heavy favourite to go on and make the final. However the Belgian will be well aware that the path to the final seemed clear for her at both the Aussie Open and Wimbledon this year and her game fell apart badly in key matches.

However if Clijsters keeps focus she should win this one in straight sets. She is a better mover and has a far better backhand than Stosur. Crucially she also possesses the accuracy from the back of the court to expose the Aussie’s weakness.

Unless Stosur serves out of her mind this is likely to go the same way as her other three matches with Clijsters which the Belgian has all won in straight sets on hard courts, including a 6-3, 7-5 win in Miami earlier this year.

Bootyism - Masters Tourney Cannot Police The Sky

As noted by Scott Van Pelt on ESPN today, the security at the Masters can handle any uppity patrons of the fine Southern establishment. What they can't control are the skies -- at least not entirely anyway; which is how a plane with the banner, "Tiger: Did You Mean 'Bootyism'?" managed to make it's way over the course.

First of all, kudos to ESPN for showing the plane (even if, because AP photogs were getting loose on the plane, they had no choice) and then discussing its presence.

Secondly, who do these people think they are, invading God's country's airspace like that? Typically, the answer would be: "PETA." But since this has nothing to do with animals, and Buddhists don't really seem like the kind to take the aggressive "public sky humiliation" angle, let's just assume it was the Chi Phi's at UGA and move on. It's a better use of their funds than usual.

“Bootyism” Banner For Tiger Woods – Tiger Woods is back on the golf course and he’s getting heckled more than just someone occasionally yelling something in the background. Instead, people are being more creative – they are using planes and banners to take jabs at the pro golfer.

Tiger Woods was probably feeling a little better now that he is on the golf course playing in the Masters today. Of course, there was a large crowd, like expected, and with that there was even more security. Apparently, there wasn’t enough security as planes with banners caught a lot of attention from just about everybody.

The first banner that flew by read: “TIGER: DID YOU MEAN BOOTYISM?” This is in reference to Tiger Woods promising to return to his Buddhist ways and that he had drifted away from it for quite sometime.

But if you thought that was the last banner, well, you’re wrong… shortly after the “Bootyism” banner, another one flew by. This one read: “SEX ADDICT? YEAH. RIGHT. SURE. ME TOO!”

I guess it’s going to take quite sometime for Tiger Woods to get back into the non-scandal life. Though, I doubt that will happen any time soon, if ever.

Anyways, “Bootyism” is defined as a religion originating in the east(coast) encouraging the endowment of large quantities of (female) booty, getting booty, banging booty, etc. or Bootyism is a sexy religion often confused with Buddhism according to the Urban Dictionary.

Here’s the new Nike Commercial featuring Tiger Woods and the voice of his deceased father, Earl Woods. That’s right, Tiger does not say anything in the ad, he just looks very serious; I think we all know why. (Scroll down to watch Tiger’s New Nike ad)

Watch Tiger’s New Nike commercial after the jump…

The commercial was released earlier today; the same time another mistress of Tiger came out of the woodwork. What is it now? Mistress # 15, 16 or 17? This one is Woods’ neighbor’s daughter. (Sigh) What would you be thinking if you were Elin Nordegren, his cheated wife?

TMZ is doing a poll of its readers asking whether they think the new Tiger ad is “sincere” or “PR BS” and so far 76% including myself call it “PR BS”.

Tell us what do you think of the ad? “Sincere” or “Pure PR BS”?

CNN States H1N1 Flu May Be Dangerous To Otherwise Healthy Kids

Lou Dobbs from CNN reported on his show that the Swine Flu may be dangerous to healthy children.

  • Get vaccinated. Vaccination is the best protection we have against flu. Seasonal flu vaccine is available now and initial doses of 2009 H1N1 flu vaccine also are available, with additional doses available later this year.

  • Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.

  • Take everyday actions to stay healthy.

    • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.

    • Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.

    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread that way.

    • Stay home if you get sick. CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.

  • Follow public health advice regarding school closures, avoiding crowds and other social distancing measures.

  • Find healthy ways to deal with stress and anxiety.

  • Stay informed. This website will be updated regularly as information becomes available.

  • Call 1-800-CDC-INFO for more information.
